Bridges Of Change~Poem by Swan Song

~Bridges Of Change~

How many bridges have you walked,
In life? How many have you crossed?
What was the passage like, as you
Traveled over those intersections of life?

Were they times of trouble, or bliss?
Were they nerve-wracking, or soothing?
Were they wrought with pain, or were
They like a soothing wind to your soul?

Comparatively speaking, what percentage
Of your journeys were glad news, and gave
You robust joy, and how many caused you
To hurt so bad, you nearly entered oblivion?

It is very strange looking back, isn’t it?
We tend to see past events in a changed
Light, with the passage of time blowing
At our backs, and ticking in our hearts.

Some things tend to formulate in our
Mind, and cause us to reflect on how
Different life might have been, had we
Had a variant reaction to past events.

Sometimes, as we reflect back, we observe
That improvements might have been made,
Should we have made alternative decisions,
And thought more clearly, and carefully.

Ah! To have the joy of “hindsight”, would
Have been a thing to truly celebrate
During our many crossroads which we
Have encountered on our trails of life.

Yet at other times, as we ponder things
Within this sphere, we nod our heads, and
Think, “Well, not too bad”, but it possibly
Could have used a “tweak” of improvement.

We wonder, in our reflections, “What is
All of this really about”? Are there lessons
That are important for me learn, as I
Traverse through waterfalls of change?

We may wonder what conclusions should we
Be reaching, as we are so busy cogitating
These “Whys” of life, and living in what seems
To be a wild jungle of entanglements, at times.

To be calm; to study and think on these
Things, is good for the soul, I believe,
If our thoughts are directed correctly,
And tend to bend in a healthy direction.

Otherwise, it seems that we might be inclined
To draw life’s already tangled ball of yarn too
Chokingly close to our heart of hearts, and
Withdraw from our needed healing balm.

I believe that the conclusion of this musing, is
To sort through our lives gently, remembering
To always be kind to ourselves, in our keen
Investigations of tender matters in our heart.
